LIBRARIES

The southeast region is fortunate to have three public university libraries—Fayetteville State University, The University of North Carolina Pembroke, and The University of North Carolina Wilmington. Together these entities make up the UNC Coastal Consortium that allow for cooperative sharing of resources and makes approximately 1,647,275 volumes available for use. The purpose of the Coastal Consortium is to establish and maintain an efficient online, integrated library system for all members and to pursue other avenues of cooperation among the members for the purpose of enhancing library services provided for their users. In addition there are two private university libraries—Methodist University and St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

A computer link provides rapid access to a joint on-line catalog of the consortium’s resources. Other services include:

  • Inter-library Loans
  • Photocopying
  • Online Databases and Research Files
  • Microfilm/microfiche catalogs

In addition to the UNC Coastal Consortium, several southeastern counties have public library networks, multiple facilities, and a variety of services, bringing total number of volumes in the region to approximately 4,102,108.
