THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT PEMBROKE The University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP) is dedicated to providing its students with a personal approach to their education. The University offers 44 programs at the bachelor’s level and 17 master’s degree programs, including the Master’s of Business Administration and Master’s of Public Administration. The University is located in the North Carolina coastal plain about 10 miles west of the intersection of Interstate 95 and U.S. 74. The campus is on 151 acres adjacent to the Town of Pembroke in Robeson County. There are 32 campus buildings, including five traditional residence halls and five apartment buildings. Founded in 1887 for the education of American Indians, the University now serves a student body reflective of the rich cultural diversity of American society. Total enrollment fall 2007 included 17.9% American Indian, 26.3% African American, 1.7% Asian, 2.6% Hispanic and 46.1% White students. US News ranks UNCP one of the most diverse universities in the nation. A low student/faculty ratio allows UNC Pembroke to provide an intellectually challenging academic environment created by a faculty dedicated to teaching and learning excellence, interaction with students, and scholarly activity. The University Honors College attracts top students from across the state. US News ranks UNCP among the most affordable universities in the nation. Among the 291 full-time faculty members, 65% have earned the doctoral degree. There are 44 undergraduate degree programs, as listed below, and an additional 53 minors that students can choose.
Master’s degree programs are available in education (school administration, elementary, middle grades, reading, art education, English education, mathematics education, music education, physical education, science education, social studies education, and MAT programs), service agency and school counseling, social work (MSW), public administration (MPA), and business administration (MBA). UNC Pembroke also offers selected courses and undergraduate and graduate degree programs online and on the campuses of Cape Fear Community College, Sandhills Community College, Southeastern Community College, Fayetteville Technical Community College, Richmond Community College, and Ft. Bragg. The University’s Regional Center for Economic, Community and Professional Development offers short courses, seminars and conferences. |
