Centre Ingredient Technology, Inc., an innovative developer of natural flavorings and fragrance ingredients for buyers in the food, beverage and cosmetics industries, has opened an operation in Richmond County. The privately held firm is investing $7.2 million at a 4,000-square-foot facility in Rockingham. The move, facilitated through a lead generated by North Carolina’s Southeast, is bringing 20 new jobs to the region.

Centre Ingredient Technology (CIT), whose operations were previously based in McAdoo, Penn., ships its product to a global customer base. The firm was established in 1998 by Mohamad Farbood, Ph.D., an internationally respected industrial scientist who holds more than 30 patents in microbiology, fermentation and food science. CIT’s initial focus was on biotechnology research. In 2003, it launched production operations. Its products are added to natural flavor compounds used in dairy products and processed meats, soft drinks and other items. All CIT products are made with using natural ingredients that comply with strict U.S. and European food and drug regimes.
