Governor Beverly Perdue joined regional and local officials in Hoke County in July to welcome plastics manufacturer Alpla, Inc. The company, an Atlanta-based unit of Austria’s Alpla-Werke Alwin Lehner GmbH & Co., is investing $7.2 million at a new plant in Raeford that will supply the adjacent Unilever personal products facility, the county’s largest industrial employer.

Alpla will build a 40-person workforce at its Raeford site, which will produce plastic bottles for shampoo, conditioners and other consumer products made by Unilever. “North Carolina’s tremendous workforce continues to attract businesses to our state, and we are excited about the jobs coming to Hoke County,” said state Rep. Garland Pierce in welcoming company leaders to the region. The plant, Alpla’s first in North Carolina, will be among six the company operates in the U.S. The 40 new jobs will offer salaries averaging annual $32,450.

“We look forward to a long relationship with Raeford and the surrounding communities,” said Michael Koenig, Alpla’s director of finance. The company is assuming occupancy of a vacant 130,000-square-foot industrial building formerly utilized by Unilever. Alpla’s search for suitable locations began with a visit to the Southeast Commission’s website.
