Investor Profile: Waste Industries

waste industriesWaste Industries provides solid waste collection, transfer, recycling and disposal services in North Carolina and the mid-Atlantic U.S.  Since the company’s founding in 1970, it has been guided by the mission of providing the highest-quality waste management in the industry.

In addition to its focus on customer service, the company is dedicated to sustainability. Its Black Creek Renewable Energy unit operates its 9.6 megawatt landfill-gas-to-energy plant adjacent its Sampson County landfill. The facility generates enough electricity to power 7,000 households.

In May 2016, Waste Industries unveiled a new fleet of compressed natural gas vehicles serving its New Hanover County operations.  The $7 million project includes a state-of-the-art filling system with dual compressors, shop upgrades and vehicles.  The CNG fleet will reduce Waste Industries' carbon monoxide emissions by approximately 77 percent, nitrogen oxide emissions by approximately 87 percent, particulate matter emissions by 95 percent, and cut greenhouses gases by over 20 percent.

The company also gives generously to community and educational programs across its service area. Through its Full Circle Project, Waste Industries provides customers a means of offering input into the company’s charitable given decisions. Among the recipients of its financial support are organizations working on behalf of animal welfare, homelessness, cancer research, children’s health and wounded soldiers.
