Richmond County Names Martie Butler to Economic Development Post
When officials in Richmond County needed to hire a professional to serve as their lead interface with its industrial community, they were able to turn to a familiar face. On January 14th, Martie Butler began her tenure as Management Analyst/Economic Development for the county, a role that will focus primarily on providing support for existing corporate residents.
Since 2007, Ms. Butler had served as an economic developer for the N.C. Department of Commerce’s Southeast Regional Office in Fayetteville. Her duties there centered on monitoring and serving companies across the 11-county Southeast Region, which includes Richmond County. “I’ve known Martie for years and worked a lot of projects with her,” says Rick Sago, Richmond County Manager. He counts key expansions at Richmond Specialty Yarns in Ellerbe and Trinity Manufacturing in Hamlet among the efforts wherein Ms. Butler worked closely and effectively with job-creators in Richmond County. “She’s experienced with our industries,” Mr. Sago says. “It’s a great fit.”
Prior to joining the N.C. Department of Commerce six years ago, Ms. Butler spent four years at the N.C. Department of Revenue. The Winston-Salem native holds a B.A. from Campbell University and an M.B.A. from Gardner-Webb University.
